The much-rumoured Sony Xperia Z was unveiled at the CES tech show in Las Vegas yesterday. This new handset will take over from the Xperia T as Sony’s flagship device.
The incredible new handset features a 5-inch screen and is both waterproof and dust-proof. Supposedly it can work under water for up to 30 minutes.
This new Xperia T also sports a number of high-end features including quad-core processing and a 13-megapixel camera.
The new Xperia Z has an all-black design but Sony plans to also offer the device in white and purple. The device features glass on both the front and back giving it smooth and uninterrupted surfaces. The screen is set flat within the device’s trim bezel making the already large display to appear even bigger.
Another feature worth noting is the phone’s buttons and controls that sit flat on the handsets frame, further enhancing the phones slim silhouette and sleek design. The handset’s attention is focused around the circular power button, which is silver and relatively big compared with the extremely thin volume rocker.
This new device from Sony has impressive features. The inside of this amazing phone sports a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor which drives the phone’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software.
The 13-megapixel camera features a backside illuminated sensor giving the camera app a useful HDR mode to those tackle still shots under low-light conditions. Sony also claims that the Xperia Z can also enable its HDR mode while capturing videos, possibly the first smartphone able to do this. The camera also features a burst mode, panorama setting and a wide range of other special filters and effects.
The general feeling from CES is that people are impressed with the Sony Xperia Z. It’s the slickest and most compelling handset we’ve seen so far. The smartphone is expected to be released in Q1 2013 but the exact date and price is to be confirmed soon.
Case-Mate is part of the “Made for Xperia” Programme and will have a range of cases available and ready for the Sony Xperia Z.
